Keppel Sands is a quiet beach settlement, located 15km off the Emu Park Road and 40 km from Rockhampton. The Keppel Sands Main Beach is 1.3km long, facing East. Keppel Sands is separated from Emu Park by the broad-mouthed Coorooman Creek.
The Charming village township centred around fishing and holiday making, situated at the southern end of the Capricorn Coast. Surrounded by Coorooman and Cawarral Creeks to the North, Keppel Bay and the Coral Sea to the East and Pumpkin Creek to the South.
Once, Keppel Sands went by the name of The Sandhills. Sandhills along the beach front were about all there was, until the sugar cane plantations started to emerge.
