Stamp Duty Abolished for First Home Buyers in Queensland: What You Need to Know
Stamp Duty Abolished for First Home Buyers in Queensland: What You Need to Know
Big news for first home buyers! As of today, 1 May 2025, eligible Queenslanders purchasing their first home or block of residential land will no longer have to pay stamp duty — a game-changing reform set to save thousands and open new doors to home ownership.
💰 How much could you save?
On average, Queenslanders buying a house-and-land package at median prices can expect to save around $9,906 in upfront costs. In some areas, savings are even greater — with buyers in Brisbane North saving nearly $39,500 and in Toowoomba more than $24,000.
🏡 Who’s eligible?
To qualify, buyers must:
- Be purchasing their first home or residential land in Queensland
- Intend to live in the property as their primary residence within 12 months of settlement
- Have a contract dated on or after 1 May 2025
There’s no price cap, so whether you're buying a unit, house, or land — as long as it's your first home and you live in it, you could be eligible.
🚫 What’s not included?
- Properties purchased before 1 May 2025
- Buyers who demolish an existing dwelling before moving in
- Investment properties
