Update on the former Tower Holdings leasehold land
Update on the former Tower Holdings leasehold land
Land holdings on Great Keppel Island (Woppa) comprise of leasehold, freehold, state land and reserve. The land areas previously held by Tower Holdings is now Reserve Land managed by the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing, and Regional and Rural Development (formerly the Department of Resources) as trustee. Any decisions about these lands will be made by the department, considering the aspirations of the Great Keppel Island (Woppa) Concept Master Plan 2024.
Clean-up works continue
Clean-up operations are continuing on site, with all existing building rubble being sorted into waste streams and prepared for removal from the island. Waste materials will be progressively removed from the island via the barge service. A structural assessment has been completed on all buildings, and Leeke’s Homestead has been cleaned up and secured to restrict public access. DEMEX has mobilised all major machinery to the site, including excavators, tracked dumpers, a shredder, and hook bins. Please note that large machinery will operate across the site daily between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. During these times, significant noise is expected. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out these important works—we appreciate your support during this time.
